welcome to the great pack-camp! Enjoy your stay and remember to check out at the great alphas office!

jokes aside.. the  fight scene in top corner sort of explains how great alpha got those scars shown on previous page :o
Soon Shadow will actually finally meet him. :P
Also feel free to fix my grammar and spelling.

Blue's fathers name was mentioned earlier (page18) and that was Magnus, so if he was Blue's father he would have had to lie to his name to Shadow for some reason :) it is a good theory still tho :P We will have to see if we find out where her lupine parents are.  Also just in case you were confused, earlier it was mentioned Blue's lupine packs alpha was black wolf named Nocte but he wasn't her adoptive father :) So her adoptive father's appearance was never described.

Why do you ask? if it is about my recent poll, it wasn't about this particular page but generally about my comic and females in it.

Also as I stated females wear the top ;) you can count which ones have the top to notice them, if appearance doesn't give it away for you.

Haha fighting for power is exactly what my griffons in the Tevuro Clan do  Basically they take a bunch of aspiring warriors/leaders and throw them into an arena to fight against experienced warriors or, for those who aspire to be leaders, against the Clan leader him/herself. It's a little more convoluted than that - aspiring leaders must secure a high ranking warrior position in the previous year, depending on performance and circumstances griffons may try again next year or are forever denied reentry, a leader who is beaten must give his decision there in the arena, winners are mentored for three weeks until the final decision is given...

but it's basically similar :meow:

:la: Looking forward to meeting the alpha! Seems like someone you wouldn't want to mess with.

Well for lupines such fighting isn't the common way to solve the matters of leadership, but a way that is used when there is not other way to get to an agreement XD
That reminded me to keep a close eye on you since you have that upcoming comic being planned.. 8)  Also that sounds really interesting.. so for them it is not that uncommon for them to fight till death or.. strictly avoid killing the participants?

 indeed! :la:

The Tevuro Clan lives in the Thurin Rainforest, which can be pretty rough. Kyzaro explains a bit in the comic...

"Here in the Thurin Rainforest, it is vital for a Clan to have its warriors. Violent nomadic Clans are an issue and defence is a must. The Tevuro Clan holds this Riserthunn yearly to take griffons between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five, pick out the ones who have hopes of becoming a warrior and display the potential, and throw them into this arena, where they will face off the strongest, most respected warriors in the Clan. Those who pass gain their position, and those who fail... can either try again or are forever denied re-entry based off how far into the fight they got and the circumstances that led to their defeat. This pivotal fight for power is also where potential future leaders are found. A single griffon a year, one who won the previous year's Riserthunn, may be permitted to face the Clan leader in battle and if they win, they have a chance at claiming power. The biggest catch about this is that if you lose at any one point, that's it."

They need a leader who is both mentally and physically strong.

Fatally harming an opponent is avoided - all participants must avoid striking their opponent where they would in a real battle: the throat specifically. Stabbing risks aren't there, because although they have spears, for the Riserthunn only claws and a curved blade strapped to side of each forelimb. However, due to the fact that griffons don't use armour (too restricting) and that the second round must be fought with unsheathed blades, deaths can and do occur by accident from time to time.

:la: still scripting! Three and a third parts to go x) And so much designing and culture building and language creating and region designing... It is fun, but time consuming.

woah that sounds tough competition.. also makes you think that who ever is their leader is not to be messed with.

that makes sense.. it would be waste of resources and capable men if they would aim to specifically kill each other.. so it is pretty much same as for my lupines in a way, they do try to avoid killing the other opponent.. but accidents do occur U-U
also about the armors, good choice not to make em wear any, not only it would restrict movement but i imagine it would be a drawback for flying.. as they are griffons after all xP but they could probably carry armor while flying.. not sure how much they would be able to carry though and still be able to fly.

you are putting so much detail and effort into this! I can't wait to see, no hurry ofc ^^ take your time. I know it will be awesome! already from what you have written in these messages it sounds very interesting and good to read too :P

It didn't mean a fight to death, just a fight/duel to see who is stronger to lead. xD but yeah not common way to solve thing,s but this was a special situation.. XDDD I guess they couldn't think of a more 'fair' way to decide.
Mostly other  would give up at some point point or tire out or in worst case scenario, be stubborn and fight until you are too badly wounded to continue, which might lead to death later on due to inflammation, even though such thing is not intended to happen ofc. ;D  anyway this will be confirmed later on, that it wasn't a fight to death. :)
... besides simply killing alpha of some pack would most likely just anger his pack and I doubt they would simply follow this new alpha, it is better to have the alpha alive and recognize the leadership of the new alpha, which would help new alpha to gain the trust and respect of the new pack members.

I avoid straight ahead spoiling future events :3 and can't tell exactly what will happen (though sometimes I might give hints here and there) but that much I can tell that Shadow will finally meet this great alpha face to face! Shadow doesn't sound too happy about the attack idea.. so it will be seen (soon, maybe not all on next page)  whether he will promise to side with them in the attack or whether he will decide to do something else instead?

Shadow look sad in the last panel, i think he is thinking about Blue. And more how he can save her, so that the Lupines not will hurt her. I'm not really trust the motives of the grat alpha, what want he do to fight back the invaders? I'm not sure that this is the best way for Shadow.

wounderful details keep it up your

True, He most likely was thinking of her and also the fact that lupines are probably unaware how many leonines are in the continent already and they have built cities as well. To him because of both of those reason the attack is probably a bad idea. :)

I agree with :iconrinzazen: about the last sentence - I had to read it a few times to figure it out.

Anyway, I love the character design of the old alpha... poor guy looks so depressed about not being in charge.

And what's this?  Lupines with weapons?  Gasp!  They're learning.  Though I also have a feeling that they're going to learn a hard lesson about how sieges work and why storming fortresses was an absolute last resort.  We were talking about Last of the Mohicans a while ago (or specifically, I was complaining about it) but one thing that it does depict correctly is how sieges worked in the 1700s - the attackers would dig zig-zagging trenches until they were close enough to deploy mortars.  If that wasn't enough, they'd keep digging until the trenches were right up to the walls and then they could storm the fortification.  Most generals in siege would surrender long before that would happen, again, as depicted.  Notably, the American Revolution ended like this.  At the Battle of Yorktown, Cornwallis' army was holed up in fortifications when the Continental Army began digging its trenches.  With escape blocked and no hope of relief, Cornwallis surrendered.

It's fixed :)

Yeah, he doesn't seem pleased but at least his wife is :D

yeah, they kinda have to, even though they are still better at 'hand to hand combat'.. but additional reach will probably come in handy!

Maybe.. ^^ Shadow at least seems to already think it is a bad idea, but maybe he will be able to provide them some important info to help them.. but it will be seen whether that helps enough.
yeah, that was interesting siege technique. Once again we see that sometimes patience, at least when it comes to siege.. can be very useful trait for the leader.

Yay!

He looks really upset... poor guy.

Having something that might actually be able to penetrate chainmail and hardened leather armor would definitely come very much in handy.

I'm sure we'll see more on the subject soon!  Nine times out of ten, sieges ultimately boiled down to battles of logistics - which side could supply enough food to feed the men, stave off disease, and generally keep their army in fighting condition.

Considering leonines have other cities up north they have the problem of reinforcements if siege lasts too long, if someone has managed to go out to call for reinforcements ofc :D but yeah.. that is to be seen.

Oh… I completely forgot about that. Obviously, they can’t send aid if they don’t know about the attack, but I’m sure that they have trade, diplomacy, or even just friends and relatives visiting who might stumble over the battle.

Historically, this was a fairly common tactic: besiege a fortress or city too important to ignore and force the enemy army to fight you in the open, on a ground of your choosing. This was how Hannibal was finally defeated in the Second Punic War, as a Roman invasion of Carthagian homelands forced him to withdraw from Italy and rush home, where he was defeated at the Battle of Zama.

I suspect that the Lupines will have an easier time of it fighting Leonines in the forest rather than letting them hide behind their walls.

oh I did think of that.. whether lupines manage to fight the leonines out in the open or attack at all will be seen. they would indeed have more advantage fighting in the forests where they could make best use of their stealth... :) but maybe Rex is too smart to be lured out there.. and maybe the lupine leader is too impatient.. or other way around.. xP

Yeah... I know we'll see.

The biggest difficulty about being a foreign occupier is that as long as your opponent still has a coherent fighting force, the war isn't over. Since you can't just drive them out of the country (they'll continue to raid your forces even if they have to cross borders to do it), one way or another, the occupier has to destroy them. But as you mentioned, patience is the big killer for insurgents and rebels. If they attack on too large a scale, they can beat themselves to death against the occupier's defenses or become entangled with superior forces in a fight they can't win.

I'm having to have doubts that the Lupine leader is smart enough to bide his time. The Lupines aren't a true army. They might have plenty of courage and fighting skills, but they lack the discipline of a professional army.

Just a couple of things. The preceding sentence should be written as such: "Some Alphas choosing to step down from their position..."

As for the last sentence, the wording is somewhat confusing. I recommend changing it to "They had no idea what they were really up against..." or something like that. It says the same thing, but in a more fluent phraseology (for English speakers).

Also, that brown wolf in the center with his arms crossed but not holding anything, his waistband decor vaguely resembles a skull IMHO. Maybe it is...

As always, excellent work! You continue to impress me.

So they use sticks and spears? Being forbidden to use anything more than claws and fangs for hunting and all, I didn't thought they knew how to make or use weapons.

(And this page is good.)

:iconhunterbeinghunted:

well the sticks are mainly for training (those two wouldn't want actually to hurt each other while training ;)
Well they generally avoid using weaponry and mostly fight in hand to hand and are best at that, lacking training with weaponry, but this is a special situation and they really need weapons to have better chance, as much as they would want to stick to their traditions, it is no honor to be stubborn and die :/
anyway, they have always made tools and it doesn't take much to make spears and bows... just it is their beliefs that prevents them for doing them to use in a fight/to kill.. and since using weapons in hunting was forbidden  there must have been way to make those weapons or  a possibility to use them.  *shrugs* :)
